Can anyone tell me whether mozilla firefox and IE can co-exist on the same system? Are there any special considerations to be aware of when installing firefox on XP running IE6?

TIA

Mozilla is just another browser. The only issue you might have is if you want Mozilla as default browser. Even that works fine in XP though - and I've been using Mozilla for months now.
I only use IE to go to specific sites (think online banking) that have not been capable of, or have not wished to (like Windows Update) make themselves available for anything else.

All the rest of my Internet activity is via Mozilla, and I have never once encountered any issues (other than the above).

Pascal.

I run Netscape, Firefox, Opera and IE on my home PC with no issues other than from time to time I get asked if I want X to be my default browser.

I use IE only for some specific websites also. Anything else I do through Opera.
Tip: I get practically zero of those annoying Hijacks by using Opera instead of IE.

You'll get practically zero of those annoying Hijacks by using just about any browser other than IE!

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!
