I tried installing Java on Mozilla 1.2 and it would not work, so I installed 1.6 and it still doesn't work.

Using Redhat9.

The RPM for the JRE says it is installed, but the test page on Java's website says it needs to download and install a plugin, which it did, and gave a success message.

But it still won't work!

I've checked the prefs and "enable java" is checked, and /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/java2 and /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so exists.

I'm out of ideas here... any suggestions?

When I go to Java's test page, the page always tells me I need to install an extension. :)

I figure it's not working then, as I don't see their little Java test screen.

I use Debian..

1. In my PC, the plugins for mozilla are in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.. do you have it? (just in case)

2. libjavaplugin_oji.so inside the mozilla/plugins folder must be a link, not the file itself

3. if you select Help > About Plug-ins of mozilla, what do you get? do you have the lines:

Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4.2_02-b03

File name: libjavaplugin_oji.so
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4.2_02

???

Cheers.

I installed the flash rpm and the j2sdk-1_4_2_03-linux-i586.rpm on a Fedora Core 1 machine that has Mozilla 1.4.1.
Still the directory /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins is empty (yes I set view hidden files)

So is the rpm sht or is it Fedora, I would install Debian if it comes with a good multilanguage installation.
I liked Redhat and Fedora as it askes my main language and other (to be installed) languages when installing. And it is the only one where japanese typing works for all programs after installing it (without having to do it all in Japanese and having ONLY Japanese).

Hmm great, searched google some more (I have nothing better to do than spend 95% of my pc time trying to make the *&*^&&^& thing work) and found this:

done that and mozilla didn't start anymore.
allthough the directory
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
is empty the directory /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4.1/plugins/ isn't:
libflashplayer.so
libnullplugin.so
flashplayer.xpt
But when I select help -> about plug-ins I get no plugin @ all.
