We are replacing our current file server with a new machine. We did not use DFS for the profile path so I will need to make a copy and paste type move. However, I cannot copy folder and files because I am not the folder's owner. If I take ownership I will break the folder's security and would have to manually restore this on the new server to hundreds of folders.

Is there a way to make this move without destroying the folder's security. NTBackup works but when I restore to the new share it restores it with the full folder tree instead of just the profile folders.

Maybe Robocopy running as a scheduled task under the system account?

Thanks in advance.

I tried FSMT and could not get it to work. I instead when over to the GUI revision of Robocopy and selected these flags:

/sec /copyall /b /zb /mir

Make sure your a member of the backup operators group before you run this command.
