hello,

we are in process of upgrading Novell Netware 6.5 sp8 with edirectory 8.7.3.10 and replacing it by Novell OES sp3 and moving zenworks ZDM 7 sp1 to a virtual appliance that will be running zenworks 11.
some questions arise :
1 - what is the upgrade order netware 6.5 or ZDM sp1 ?
2 - do i have to upgrade to edirectory 8.8.x ?
3 - what are the prequisities on my novell worksations actually running Novell Client 4.91 SP4 and iprint 4.38 with zen agent 7.0.1?
many thanks

Chihab,

The upgrade order does not really matter. ZCM is not eDirectory integrated so has no dependencies on the directory. All you need is functional LDAP on your server for the user authentication portion of ZCM. With that said, I would suggest you first do your OES upgrade. Finalize it and make sure everything is a-okay. Then start a new project to upgrade the ZENworks portion of your network.

Yes, you have to upgrade eDirectory to 8.8.x

You should be fine on your clients and agents. You may need to upgrade the iPrint client when you migrate iPrint from NetWare to OES Linux. ZCM anf ZfD can coexist with no problems.

Problems to look out for wold be default servers set on the clients, eDirectory attributes such as user home directory set to servers you plan to retire

You have a pretty large project on your hands with all the parts it will have. Do the parts one at a time and make sure they are fully functional before continuing to the next. No need to worry about user access, file access, print access, and desktop management all at the same time.

Thank you Brent !

regarding the point 2 - upgrading to edirectory 8.8.x, there is no clear technical document talking about the upgrade.some suggest to go first to 8.7.3.10b then to 8.8.4, other talk about to go from 8.7.3.10 to 8.8 sp3 FTF3 (which is a bugged version according to others).
what is the real documented path to take ?

Thanks again !

8.8 sp6 is the current version.

When you upgrade, start with the server that holds either a Master or R/W replica of [Root] first.
