Office 2007/2010. Is there a way of moving the ribbon so it appears on the left or right?

I sometimes have to use a 1366x768 laptop. The entire ribbon with ruler etc takes up appx 180pixels. With a 768 height, that is 25% of your screen gone. The status bar and taskbar take up another 70pixels so that is 35% of the viewable area gone. I can move the taskbar to the right/left: that saves about 40 pixels so I can have 70% viewable. If I could move the ribbon to the right or left, it would help enormously, otherwise I am perpetually scrolling up and down, especially when the text refers to the diagram.

No, you can't move the Ribbon. You can right-click on a tab and minimize it to free up some room though.

You can also double-click on a tab, and that will minimize the ribbon as well. Then hovering over it will bring it back to full size.

I know about minimizing the ribbon: just wondering whether it could be moved to show vertically. After all, the screens are just geting wider but the height is shrinking.

My 8 year old PC has a screen resolution of 1400x1200. Current one is 1920x1080: lost 120 pixels vertically. My small portable laptop had a screen size of 1280x800, the new netbook is one inch wider but resolution is 1366x768: lost 32 pixels vertically.

When I open docs, half the screen is black because the paper only covers half the screen. That space could have been used for the ribbon then I wouldn't have to play hiding menus all the time.
