Hi guys,

In order to recover some space on 1 disk drive, I created additonal filegroups, 'indexes','data', and 'profile'.

I am now using enterprise manager to relocate tables and indexes to the filegroups created.

When doing so, would I need to do something else after I've relocated the tables and indexes.

It seems as if I am not gaining much space from my original drive when moving tables and indexes to other drives.

Am I doing something wrong? Please advise

Are you sure you have created your secondary files (NDFs) on the other disc or are they still on the same drive as your MDF and LDF(s). Also, are these other disc true physical discs or logical drives? on the same physical disc?

Thanks

How are you moving the objects using enterprise manager?
The usual way to move tables is to recreate the clustered index on the new filegroup. Then recreate the indexes on the other fielgrouop.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.
Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy.

Also, you may need to change the default file group, otherwise data will still be added to the disk you are trying to free.
