hi all,

I am currently migrating users onto a new file server. All of our users have pst files stored in their home drives. the problem i have is that i am going to be changing the location of the pst files. I would like to make the move as seamless as possible, so my question is - is there a way of changing the path that outlook uses to find the pst file?

At the moment, once i have moved the users home files, profile, and changed their user settings, i go into their outlook, and the pst file is present, but it tells me that \\<servername>\home$\<username>\personalfolders.pst cannot be found, which is correct - becuase i have moved it. where does outlook store this info - and can it be changed?

Cheers

Ian

First, pst files on a network share is generally a bad idea. To answer your question though depends on the version of Outlook. What version are you using.

I can tell you that in Outlook XP (2002) you can go to Tools-Options-Mail Setup - Data Files you can edit ot remove the current pst then add a new one pointing to the new location.

I'm with pgaliardo on this. .pst files is not recommended, and not supported, on a network drive. If you're using Exchange, you're better off putting the data in there and removing the ability to use .pst files.

If you're not using Exchange, you should move the .pst files to the local drive on the workstations.

I *think* the location is stored at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\profilename\
but I'm not positive.
