If anybody here has any experience with SCO unix maybe you can help me out. Just installed a new server moveing data over, I want to move the passwd file over alos to keep from having to reenter all user accounts. When I move the passwd file over it shows the use accounts but they are all disabled. Its alot of users to have to go throught to reenable. Is there something Im missing somewhere.

Don't know if this will work, but have you also moved the /etc/shadow file over? Having said that, the shadow file appears to be a link to:

/etc/shadow -> /var/opt/K/SCO/Unix/5.0.5Eb/etc/shadow

No doubt someone with more SCO experience than I will be able to advise whether this is, in any case, feasible. Good luck.

If I would have done this on a linux system I would have done that any way but it didnt even cross my mind with SCO until you mentioned it. After copying both files (shadow and passwd) and a reboot it worked like a charm. Thanks!

SCO provides the "ap" command to transfer account data.

The problem with what you did here is that it does not take into account the /tcb information.

Your system is slightly out of kilter at the moment. See "man authck"

And- there is a SCO specific forum here. Tony Lawrence

So according to the link you sent me I should do this on the old machine:

/tcb/bin/ap -dg > /tmp/upgrade/ap.out

And Then this on the new:

/tcb/bin/ap -u . -v

Correct?

And thanks for the link it helped me out.

You are mixing two uses of ap. You can use ap to output to a file, in which case you'd then use it to read from that same file, OR you can use it in the manner you indicated with an existing hierarchy. Read the man page and more carefully. Tony Lawrence

Yes I realized that before I did it, I used

ap -rv -f ap.out

This worked great I got no more profile errors when testing user logins as I did before.
