Hello,
I have a bit of a challenge. We have been using SBS2003 Premium edition as our main server for some time, and we are slowly peeling things off of it. We bought several other server boxes, and are using them for various roles on our network. We purchased SQL 2005 Standard and all necessary CALs, and have our SQL server on another server now. The only thing that is using SQL 2000 on the SBS box is Sharepoint, I believe.
Now we wanted to take an x64 box and a copy of Exchange 2007 that we already own, and move Exchange to a dedicated box, migrating to 2007. I was told for various reasons it was not recommended to do this on a domain with SBS as the DC.
With that in mind, the Transition Pack looks like quite an option. Since I've already paid for the SQL cals seperately, would I have to pay extra for the "Premium Edition" transition pack? And would the Exchange CALs apply to an Exchange 2007 install?
I'd really like to get Exchange off of our overworked SBS DC, and the idea of vanquishing the eccentricities of SBS from our network altogether seems inviting, but I'm not sure if this is the right path for us. Any recommendations? We aren't maxing out the user limit at all, so the main impetus for considering the Transition Pack is that I was told that I was stuck with embedded Exchange 2003 on the SBS box, as long as that server was on the network.
Thanks for any advice!
