We've got a couple of databases sitting on an MSDE 2000 server, and want to move the data over to a nice bigger SQL 2000 server. One of the databases has a couple of users attached to it, which we need to keep in order for the program that uses it to work. Its a commercial program, so I dont know the password to recreate the users, unfortunately!

What would be the best way to move the databases over? Can I just copy the DATA directory and then attach the files? Would a backup and then restore in enterprise manager work? Any other ways? :)

You could attach the MSDE database from your SQL 2000 Server and then either script it (ensuring you have selected all options including script users, permissions

What do you mean when you say "script it" ?
