I have to move several hundred of user mailboxes from exchange server A to exchange server B. Both servers have all roles installed and both will be kept online afterwards. Is there a way I don't have to change the incoming/outgoing server settings (from Server A to Server B) in their outlook clients so that disruption to users can be minimized? Also, is there a way users can still use the old url to get access to their mailboxes via owa? Thanks

If you are using the move-mailbox wizard in the Exchange console then you shouldn't have to do anything to Outlook; it will update itself

I forgot to mention that most of the clients are using pop3.

Sadly there's no real shortcut to changing the settings then, I'm afraid. Outlook can do some autodiscovery when a POP3 account is first set up, but even that relies on your exchange admin setting up an autodiscover URL and serving up an appropriate XML file.

It would have been a lot easier if they had all been set up with Outlook Anywhere.

Unless you have been improperly setting the values in the client there should be nothing to change. Point the incoming and outgoing to the MX record address such as mail.company.com. Let the CAS role direct them to the appropriate server. Same with OWA.

I hope that helps.

Regards,

Mark
