Hi,

I didn't know if I should post this in the Windows or Netware forum, so I apologize in advance for the double post.

Our campus has recently moved to Windows Server 2003 and is using Active Directory. Our IT Department has been assigned an OU and will be responsible for administrating the branch for our 100+?? users. We are currently using Novell Netware 6.1. The campus also plans on implementing Xythos filesharing. We would like to move to AD first and still have access to our Novell files until we can move them all to Xythos. My colleague and I are familair with Netware, but will be learning AD from scratch.

We have started with the following books:

Inside Active Directory: A System Administrator's Guide by Sakari Kouti

Active Directory Bible (With CD-ROM) by Curt Simmons

Active Directory, Second Edition by Alistair G. Lowe-Norris

Active Directory for Dummies by Marcia Loughry

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for this project? Or a sample of a project plan. We would obviously like to have a detailed plan in place before we begin.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Sounds like this will be a slow paced migration, so if your going to take your time, you need to ensure both system will work together.

To migrate your user ID information, use a demo version of NIM 2.01 It will give you 90 days and will allow you to automagicly create all of your AD users from the NDS information. If the 90 days expire, delete the driver and recreate. Sync the passwords, then se CIFS on the NetWare box to get your users used to using a pure NetWare enviroment. Be sure to learn how to utilize login scripts in Winblows. Just have them authenticate to the AD forest and use the passthrough ability of CIFS to attach to the NetWare box. Use scipts to map the drive to the NetWare box, then once you get the Xythos, just edit your login scipts, users notice nothing.
