Current setup:
-2003 domain, schema level 47 (2008 r2)
-1 Parent domain, 3 children
(Call them Parent, child1, child2, child3)

Planned setup:
I'd like to end up with a single domain in this forest. I'd like that domain to be child1.

The plan is to upgrade all child1 DCs to 2008 r2 before making this change.

We'd like to remove Parent, child2, and child3.

Is this possible? Thanks!

Thanks,
Andrew

No. Parent is your forest root and cannot be removed. You could build an entirely new domain in an entirely new Forest and do a full migration, or you could leave the existing forest root "empty" and keep everything in your child domain.

Is it easy to move users from the child to the parent, and just delete the children?

Thanks,
Andrew

It depends on what your environment looks like. It's basically a domain migration, so if those child domain accounts are on ACLs, etc, then those resources would have to be re-ACLed.
