Hi to all............We have an old compaq server that hosts our 2003 AD.Also on that server is our exchange 2003.Now we bought a new hp proliant dl580, and we will install 2008 srv.We want to transfer our existing domain to the new srv.I've read some threads of how to do it(from 2000 ->2003,and 2003->2003).My question is: Does the same procedure apply to my issue also? Some said to promote the new srv to DC and it will replicate with the old one. Then demote the old one and thats it.?????I never did it before with that way.All i've done it was to transfer the roles manually, also the users(2000->2003).Is there something that is more "reliable", or any other way?I also have the exchange. Is there anything similar with that?
Now i thing another issue will be raised here.Lets say that i manage to replicate to the new srv.The ip and the srv name will be different from the old one so the replication will be succeed, right? Will everything will work ok or i should rename the new one as the old one? And if i do that will it work ok?
I want to be very careful of course because is the only DC (i know another mistake). Is there any utility in 2008 that can do that?I havent worked with it yet.
any suggestions/advices will be appreciated....Thanx

Promot the 2008 server to a domain controller and add it as an additional domain controller in your existing domain. You will need to update active directory to accept a windows 2008 domain controller before you do it which you do using the adprep command.

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?
