Moving exchange 5.5 to new server

What is entailed in moving my existing 5.5 to a new server and maintaining it's settings?

Look for M$ white paper in techinfo about "Moving Exchange server to new computer with same name".

Your best bet would be to join the existing site, Move everything over the delete the first server.

Agreed, bring up new server, even have an MX connector added for it with a lower priority, and let it get stabilize. Then move your mailboxes over. Once that is done, bring down your first exchange.
