Moving Exchange 5.5 moving from primary sever to in sync server.

NT 4.0 sp6 Exchange 5.5 sp2. I would like to move everything from one mail server to the "sync" mail sever. I have all the mailboxes moved that was easy enough and have had no problems. However, now I want to move private info. store and public. What is the best way. My goal is to make the sync server the primary. thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong here everyone, but if the mailboxes are moved then the private store is moved already. If the two servers are in the same Organization then the public information store should be synchronised onto both servers anyway.

Yes, it appears that each server contain both "private and public store". However, the primary contains more information than the sync. Another words, the servers are not replicates of each other. I'm concerned that when I disconnect the primary from the network some information will be lost.

You should be concerned.
If the first one was the first server installed in the site there are several things that need to be done. Go to the MS Knowlege Base and do a search on "removing the first server in the site" (sorry I can't give the link). This is straight forward, and I can tell you from experience that it works. I found out the hard way.

Also remove any connectors before deleting the server.

i'm being really thick....whats a 'sync' server??? are you talking about simply moving the contents of one server to another within the same site???

If you are you should have used the move mailbox feature under Admin. You will hopefully have created replica's of the public folders and then changed the server owner. You will still see the priv and pub stores, and there physical sizes will remain unchanged, until the white space is removed, and then the store will shrink.

Once no replicas are on the server the pub can be removed. The priv CANNOT.
