We have one small domain that has Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2000 domain controller. We need to move this to a different physical box. What's the easiest way to do this?

Can we install the other server as a Windows 2000 Domain Controller, install Exchange 2000, Synchronize AD and then take down the old box? (We'll change the DNS records to point to the new box too).

Thanks for any help.

How many servers do you have?

Bring in Server1 - Point to Production for DNS
DCPromo Server1 and make it a GC - Q255690
Install DNS
Point Server1 to itself for DNS
Join Exchange to domain and point it to Server1 for DNS
Point Production to Server1 to DNS
DCPromo down Production and take off GC
Shut down Production
Reset computer account for Production
Rename Exchange to Production - Point DNS to Server1
Reboot Exchange (Production)
DCPromo Exchange (Production) and make it a GC - Q255690
Install DNS on Exchange
Point Exchange to itself for DNS
DCPromo down Server1 and take off GC role
Run setup /disasterrecovery on Exchange (Production)

Also make sure before he finishes that the new server has the old IP.
