My database has been secured and currently is running on a stand alone basis on one pc. I now have now been asked to put it on a server and provide some remote dial in facilities.
All user access is through forms, which are all based upon queries. No access is given to the database window.
The office staff will all access various forms - dependent on group security level - to add, update or amend customer information, and run reports.
Field staff will not have access to any existing customer informtion. They will only have access to enter new customer details. Once entered they should not be able to view them again. The idea is to have them remotely dial in and do this. I am concerned about someone running the database over a dial in facility.
It would be good if the remote staff could enter customer records offline, and then connect to the database remotely and download their new information. I am not sure if this can be done?
I have read that it may be wise to split the database into a front and back end. I have also started to read up on synchronisation and replication.
I have never approached any of this before. It is very new to me. It would help me enormously if some one can provide me with a few pointers on the correct route i should take with suggestions/pitfalls I should consider/be aware of.
Thank you for your help.
