Hey All-

Well, we underestimated the size potential of the ArcServe database, and we're now out of room on the current drive. I was wondering how you go about moving the database location to another drive/folder.

Note: repartitioning drives, pruning database, etc... don't really want to do those yet. Just want to move database to a larger drive on the same computer. Thanks

Put the database on tape using the 'backup arcserve database files in every backup job' option (just take a tape, format it and backup up a single files or directory with this option set). The uninstall ARCserve and reinstall it on the new volume. CA advises to keep the free space on the database volume equal to the maximum size of the database, but I also saw recommendations for twice the max. size of the database. This is advised to prevent database corruption.
Alos save your jobs as scripts (*.asx files) and use the scripts to recreate the backup jobs.
This is the best way to do this, you cannot move the ARCserve database without reinstalling ARCserve completely

regards

Cyklops-

Thanks for the info! Is there a formal doc written up describing the process? I came to the organization after ArcServe had already been setup, so I'm not quite familiar with the installation process.

Once you have the database backed up to tape, you uninstall, then reinstall.... how do you get the database back onto the hard drive. Does ArcServe have a utility, or will it know to look there?

Thanks again!

If you backing up the database to tape on every job then restore it by by selecting Manager-->Utilites-->recover database and then it will bring you last database (it will overwrite the new one.

The easiest way is to:
1-ON current server stop all Arcserve Engines
2-copy database fodler & 0000001.qsd to a safe location
3-Uninstall the current instllation
4-Reinstall it in a partition which has enougth space
5-stop Arcserve engines
6-copy old database from step # 3 and overwrite the current database & 0000001.qsd folder.
