Hi,

My Arcserve database is about 4.6 GB. We use Pruning and defrag etc to keep it under control but we didn't realise how bug it would be. I need to move the databases to another drive on the system (from C to D) as I am running out of space for other things. Is this possible without initialising the DB? We do many restores and I don't want to have to merge tapes etc if at all possible.

We have:

ARCserve 2000 + SP4
Windows 2000 server + SP3
HP Lto 1/9 Ultrium drive

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Matt

Take en empty tape and make a backup of a single file or directory and check the 'backup ARCserve database files in every backup job'( see job options ).
Then uninstall ARCserve and reinstall it on the D Drive.
After reinstalling use the 'recover database' utility to let ARCserve restore the complete database in an automated session from the above mentioned tape.
Keep the database size as compact as possible. Move to SQL if it grows too large. SQL is more stable for large ARCserve databases.

Cheers. I might give this a try. Alternativly we use GHOST to make images of machines. I could make a GHOST image of the server, replace the disk with a larger one and download the image. If all goes wrong I have the original disk to put back in.

Just out of interest, does using SQL for the DB cause any performance issues? If written correctly I would expect SQL to be quicker but this is ARCserve...... :)

Thanks,

Matt
