We are moving one of our SQL Servers to new hardware. On this SQL Server is Analysis Services.

We know how to move the SQL Server from one server to another. Does anyone have any experience moving Analysis Services from one physical server to another?

I will be cross posting this in the SQL Server forums (I know that makes me evil but I need the exposure.)

Pretty straight forward process.
1) Archive your Database(s) into a .cab.
2) Move the .cab ile to the new server
3) Restore the DB from the .cab file.

Cool, thanks. Looks pretty easy.

Hi MDXer,

Does this method also move the actual cubes within Analysis Manager ? The reason why I am asking is that we will be doing the same thing within the next few weeks.

Regards :)

It moves all of the structures Datasources, Cubes, Dimensions. I believe the cubes are even restored in a processed state.

MDXer, thanks for this. I will try the above procedure :)

We are actually trying to do the same thing.
However after installing Analysis Services on a production server we are unable view any data.
I can process any object (cube, dimension) and the connection to the relational database works fine.
New objects created show the same problem...

SQl server is running with service packs installed, but I am unable to get hold of the service pack for analysis services. Does anyone have a clue how to get analysis services to run on my production server?

analysis service version is 8.0.194
