Moving Aloha Terminals

We have 3 businesses and all are using Aloha now. That gives me a total of 18 Terminals (all licensed).

I have a special event coming up and want to know if it is possible to take a terminal from one business and use it at another business for the day. I am familiar with installing the correct version of the SW and how to configure the terminals.

Will adding another terminal lock out the others, cause some strange redundency issues, release evil demons on my network, or cause the end of the world? I just want to use 4 terminals for one day event then go back to my 3 that we are using there normally.

Any input, suggestions or feedback would be appreciated

Yea, that can't be done. The terminals are licensed for each license key.

The only way is to run a terminal in redundancy on it's own. then let it do an end of day. As long as you don't need to combine the sales for that terminal and and i'ts lets say for an outdoor event or something that dosen't need a remote printer.

Let me know I can walk you thru it.

ok, can you give me more information. This might work. Can you post on here?

You will need a keyboard and a mouse.

Remove any terminal from your other restaurant "(lets call this one term4)

At the site you are adding a terminal to:

(lets call this one term1) can be any terminal.

1. get the ip address of term1 and the computer name of the server (usually ALOHABOH)

2. Unplug term1 from the network.

3. Change the ip address of term4 to match term1
4. Change the computer name of term4 to term1 - reboot.
5. Do a term install on the new terminal.

When the system comes up and the new terminal is floating - disconnect it from the network, plug in the old term1. Then you relocate the new terminal and plug it in it will count up looking for file server. When it gets to make file server - press the make file server button then enter the password. (add the two numbers at the bottom of the screen together) and put that in. The terminal will be server/master on it's own.

One thing to consider is if you will need a cash drawer or not.
If so then term1 will need to be a terminal with a drawer.

That works and will be fine for a beer bar. I can run a product mix and then enter it into the real system. LOL.

Now the other half of the question. Lets say I decide to disobey you and define another terminal in hardware for the system. so then i have one more terminal then licensed for at that location. I am sure that Aloha will try to punish me for my bad attitude. What exactly are the ramifications? Does the system not operate, does it lock out the additional terminal, does it go into redundency and not let me run eod until i have a current license?

You can't define(add) more than the number of terminlas in the Aloha manager. All the terimnals on the FOH will come p with and error.
