Hello

Just want to verify something, I need to move some aix systems to a new platform.

Is the easiest way I am thinking is simply
restore a mksysb to the new platform,
then run savevg from the current aix system, and
run restvgs to the new one, to bring over
the volume groups, if i have all the right hardware in place?

this seems easy but I am not sure if there is something missing?
thanks
john

If they are of the same hardware then this should work!

But if the new system is having extra hardware attached that needs some filesets to be installed then you have to take care of!

Khalid

When making the mksysb I think there is a flag to tell that it can be restored on other hardware. Anyway before making the mksysb you should check the oslevel is compatible on the new HW.
And when restoring it on different HW it may ask for base OS installation CDs, you should check that you have this CDs and they're at a compatible oslevel with the new HW and with the mksysb.
