Hello All,
I have just worked on a system where a Windows Active Directory domain controller died. There was no available backup with system state. Apparently, the server had RAID and the primary drive was damaged and mirrored the corruption to the other drives.
I transferred the FSMO rules to the secondary DC, which was enough to bring back up the Exchange server and enable domain authentication to work again.
My question is if there is anything else I need to do to remove the dead server from the Active Directory. It is impossible to do a dcpromo or anything like that, but my concern is long-term if it might still be embedded anywhere that might cause problems.
Thanks in advance for your help.
