Hello!!

Our company is allowing me to work from home now and they have let me take a printer home with me. It is an HP Laserjet 4 Plus and was connected to the network via a JetDirect Ethernet port. We had to connect to it by specifying the computer name and printer name when we added it as a network printer.

So now I have it at home and I intalled the new HP Web Jetadmin software, but it cannot find the printer on my network at home. My guess is because the printer is still configured with an IP address from the other network.

How can I change the printer's settings? Is this something that would have to be done back at work and let the admins there change the settings so that my network will find the printer?

Any help is appreciated.

OK, I got the printer configured now. I found an article on HP web site that described how to do a cold reset on the printer.

So now the printer has an IP address that is on my network (192.268.0.7) and I can ping the printer from all my computers, BUT I do not know what I need to do to add the printer to all my other computers.

I know how to add shared computers that are connected to LPT1 on certain machines, but I do not know how to add this one since it is not connected to any certain machine. I have tried just adding it as the IP address, but it will not let me do that.

Any ideas?

You want to use direct IP printing. Check out the following HP link:

You can also check the following:
Add Printer Wizard ->
Local Printer (don't auto detect)
Create a New Port
[if Standard TCP/IP port shows up you can do the following]
Put in printer name and ip address.
All done.

Good luck! *J*
