There have been numerous posts regarding moving sets recently so I am starting this post as it applies to all.

I did significant testing on this today and I feel in the mood for sharing.

#1 - OPSMAN Moves lose data. Especially with 5340 or like sets.

Anything that is set thru the applications page of a 5340 is defaulted. PEOPLE Lists, FWD Profiles, Languages and the like. Under the settings key, same story except for the Programmable Keys as these are maintained. Any Active features are lost INCLUDING MSG WAITING with the sole exception of call forwarding.

#2 - TASMAC or SchedMAC works like a charm.

Use UPDATE, Source EXT and Home Element to move the set. An optional Change template can be used but not a Move Template.

#3 - There are other methods for moving.

We have discussed using importing and exporting, using resiliency and manually swapping remote directory entries and other NON-OPS methods.

Be Advised, I have been informed, in no uncertain terms, that alternate methods are NOT supported by Mitel. Should the system become unstable with DB issues or the like after using NON-Standard methods for moving sets. Mitel will not be happy to assist you. That is not to say they will not help you but everything will be tainted and their job is much more difficult. You've been warned.

Forgot to mention PIN.

When restoring the phone after an OPS Move the phone will be requesting a PIN. The PIN is not lost but due to the registration process it may not work.

If on a reset the phone communicates directly to its new host controller, it will come back without needing a PIN.

If it communicates to its old host controller, it will keep requesting the pin. Here's the neat part. It does not matter what you enter as the pin as long as the extension that is PIN'd exists on the correct Host Controller. Crazy but true.

If it communicates with a controller that is neither the new host or the old host it may not come up at all until a Network Sync to all controllers is performed. Didn't test (Don't really care)

KWB

You are are a star!

So to reiterate my post, to set up a shed Move set i use UPDATE and put in the DN and name and the NEW HOME ELEMENT yes?

New Home Element in Sched MAC - Yes.

Ext Name not required just number

cheers mate, i'll give it a try

kwb,

are you saying if I change my option 125 to point all phones to the new controller, the phones will not ask me to register (use superkey to send pin)?

Why then does it not just re-home to the new controller if the pin is not deleted. after a sync surely the "old" controller should re-direct the phone the the new controller anyway....

trying to make sense of this.

I think you've just done everyone a huge favour by posting this. I didn't actually realize so many people would benefit from this info.

MitelPassion, The issue is not with the PIN but with the MAC address. I have run accross this before under different circumstances. On a reset of the phone the controller that responds to DHCP will only check it's local tables against the MAC regardless of the stored PIN. To get the controller to search the remote tables you must re-enter the PIN.

On the flip side, what you enter as a PIN does not matter as long as the extension entered is on the destination controller. When this controller receives the registration request, it checks the MAC first and upon finding it delivers the goods.

If you modify option 125 as you suggest, the phone should come up with a reset and not require a PIN.
