Not very well versed in the ways of Novell....but here goes, simplified...

I need to take a production server, Server A, and move it to a new box, call it Server B. Can I just copy everything over to Server B, shut down Server A, bring up Server B and rename it to Server A, then reinstall the license? Does Netware know if it has been moved? Is the name tied to the hardware? Please let me know if more information is needed.

Thanks. Fish

Certified in absolutely nothing :)

What version of NetWare are we talking about??? I have documented procedures that describe exactly what you would like to do.

Please advise!

We are running 5.0 Fish

Please see my comment in NW5 to NW5 migration.

To maintain the exact DS reference such as server NDS ID ( not server ID, I am talking the DS RID no. )etc, you need to use DS backup and restore option in NWCONFIG.

We have been using this method for 3 years without any major problem.

Regards.
