I have one customer who now has a new Mitel 3300 system that I know little to nothing about. When the 5330e phones are moved they retain the original extension number. How do you reset the phone to display the extension for the port it is moved to? Also, if you replace a phone what is the procedure for getting the system to recognize the phone and giving it the programmed extension?

5330e's are IP phones. All IP phones will retain their extension numbers whereever they're moved to. The "port" is virtual. If you're looking to assign a phone a new extension, you can either log into the 3300, go to Users and Device Configuration and delete the MAC address within the current extension or you can restart the phone while holding the up or down arrow, press No until you see Tools and Features where you'll press Yes, and Yes again for Erase Pin. Once the phone comes back up it'll ask for a PIN. Usually the set registration is *** + ext + hold key although it can be set to whatever the installing tech wants. That Set Registration code is set in System Options within the 3300.

I have dreamed a dream, but now that dream has gone from me.

@Hovus, how sure are you that erasing the PIN will remove the MAC from the system. My experience is that the PIN is stored in the phone and that erasing that PIN only removes that storage. It does not affect a registered phone one iota.

I'd tell you a story as to why I know this but it would reveal too much about what an idiot I can be sometimes.

I would go into each device, one at a time, clear the MAC's, save, then move them, plug in at new location and register from scratch using the ***DN, Hold.

Always look out for the next tech. because one day it will be you!

@kwbMitel, yup...sure enough it's not working with Erase Pin...maybe that's on the 5000 that it works.

I have dreamed a dream, but now that dream has gone from me.

Set replacement code is usually ### <DN required> This overwrites the mac address with the new one.

So if I have this right, I can move a phone by going into the system at User and Device Config, remove the existing MAC for the port I want to go to, move another phone to that position, power the phone up while holding either of the arrow keys, erase the pin in Tools and Features and then reregister the set using *** + ext + hold key (hopefully that is how the system is set). Now for a replacement phone, when do you enter in the ### <DN required> command?

No...let's say you have two of the same model phones. x201 sally, x202 johnny both with 5330e phones. Their phones are both up and working at their desks, but now sally and johnny are switching office. You'll go into User and Device Config under both x201 and x202 and erase their MAC addresses from device details. Now both of their phones will be sitting at the PIN screen. That's when you'll use *** + ext + hold to register the extensions at their new locations. Phones can physically stay where they are if you wanted.

OR! -- the really easy way

Have them unplug their phones and plug in to their new locations since extensions stay with the phones and not the jack they're plugged into.

I have dreamed a dream, but now that dream has gone from me.

@descendant, please don't take this the wrong way but you might be best served to hire someone who does know a little and something about the 3300 and VOIP technology in general. I'm getting a really bad feeling about how much damage you can do simply poking away at this stuff with the knowledge level your revealing.
