Moving 300 IP phones to a higher floor

I have 3 g450s on the 2nd floor with 300 IP phones, the department is moving up the 5th floor. The gateways are to remain on the 3rd floor but the majority of the network equipment will be moving upstairs. What would be needed for the gateways to still work properly? Keep the network switches where the G450s are plugged in on the 3rd floor and provide connectivity to the core switch upstairs?

Tough to say. That's a lot of gateway for 300 phones. What's the PRI/analog landscape look like? It's nice to say you're moving the the 300 people and phones up from 3rd to 5th, but what about Sally in Accounts Receivable who relies on her fax machine? You got a 25 pair for each analog card in those 450s going from 3 to 5 too?

Are you on a /23 voice subnet with 510 hosts spanned across the switches on the 3rd now? No reason spanning that up to 5 would be a problem. If you're on smaller /24s and have 2 of them, maybe move them up to 5 but keep the gateway ports on 3 in the same subnets.

I suppose the short answer to your question is "yes", but that's too much gateway for those people unless they're loaded up with PRIs playing hold music for a call center in a recorded environment.
