MovieClips and Buttons question

im creating a flash website using macrmedia flash 8. i am using buttons that are movieclips that i have given actions for their over, out and hit states.

my problem is that only the text in my movieclip works as the hyperlink. how can i get the surounding background to also be apart of the link?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Do you have a surrounding background on your texts in the movie clips?

no, my background is a graphic in the main stage.

Define a larger hit area within the hit state of your buttons.

Whatever filled shape (remains invisible) you draw in the hit state, will be the whole actual hit area.

but i cant seem to draw an invisible filled shape. it either has to have an outline which is not what im looking for.

Whatever you draw in the hit state of a button, will always remain invisible in the outputed .swf. It's only visible (bluish transparent) in the Flash application, so that you can position it.
