I moved 2 chips from one laptop to another. I didn't check to see how much ram I had before the move, but it looks like I have less than before. I moved the only 2 chips I could. One of the holders on the side broke, the other seemed to keep the chip in place.

Is there any way to check to see if on is not working? I've checked system information and didn't see anything.

Thanks

they are the sam make and models. the part that broke is one of two side connectors that hols the chip in. In this laptop the connectors are plastic the other were metal

thanks

On the one that is broken, can you wedge a piece of cardboard between the chip and the cover to see if that will hold the memory in place long enough to test?

the one side piece that's not broken seems to hold the chip in place, the chip snaps into place and holds it down

Run "Belarc Adviser". It will tell you what size is in which slot. Then you can switch them from slot to slot, and see if the readings change. If they do, find some way to mark the chips size on them.

try each chip seperately in the memory slot that isnt broken. if the system boots with either chip in, they are both fine. if not, the one that causes it not to boot is the problem.

Boot the system with each chip seperately, using only the slot that is not broken. Whichever chip causes the system not to boot up is the bad chip.
