I did a "cleanup" and reorganized the desktop on my laptop a while ago, deleting some downloaded files, moving some files to a new folder. All seemed OK. I normally set my laptop to hibernate when I am done working. This weekend I rebooted and then I noticed that the desktop was looking like it did before the "cleanup". Strange?... Any Ideas?

Is this a company laptop on a domain or is it something at home?

If you're on a domain you're roaming profile may not be updating correctly, youd need to ask your IT department to help you with it.

If you're on a home pc/not on a domain, the only thing I can think of off hand might be that your system had an error and system restore put the files back, that being the case, just deleting them again should sort you out.

Thanks for comments. Laptop is member of domain, but there is no roaming profiles. (I am IT-dept). Will clean up again and see if it stays OK. Some more comments: checked eventlog. lots of windows updates lately. Also the laptop probably went down one night due to lack of power. This may be the cause off the problem?

Yes. System restore is turned on, but I would expect a to see it in the eventlog if a restore had occured? I tried to run a restore after I discovered the reappearing files. This event is logged with source srservice, but there is noe other srservice event lately.

Hmm youd think if it was permissions youd not have been able to delete them in the firt place, I'm not sure if system restore does make a log entry.

Rather than deleting everything just test it with a single file perhaps.

Are there copyes of there files in the All Users/Desktop Profile, I have seen them come back when you are log in under your profile but the files are also on the All Users desktop profile.

Yuu will find that the folder where your application data is redirected to is within a cached folder on the server. If this said folder is also used for clients "My Documents" you will want to leave it caching since removing the caching feature will disrupt offline data store on client machines. Just create a folder above and have paths changed on the server to represent a new "home" path.

Permissions - is not a problem. I am member of Domain Admins and local admin on the laptop and have access to everything on this computer.

All Users Profile - Nothing there except a few shortcuts to some apps.

Redirecting/syncronicing - no redirected folders

Deleted end moved a few files from the desktop yesterday. Rebooted - everything is OK so far.
