I have to move our data volume to a new drive. I want to preserve all of NTFS and Sharing Permissions.

Will NTBackup solve this for me.

Thanks

Nick

Scopy or Robocopy can be used for this. Robocopy is faster but it doesn't copy shares although it will copy all folders with their NTFS security settings intact. You needn't use NTBackup for this.

But if you wanted to use NTBackup for this you could because it also preserves the NTFS and sharing permissions.

I completed this sucessfully but NTBACKUP did keep my NTFS permissions but not my share permissions. Not a big deal..

Did you remove the old volume before restoring the new one? If not, then it couldn't re-do the shares because there were already shares existing with those names.

I killed all of the shares before the restore. I did not remove the old volume in case anything went south during the restore.
