I have just fitted a physical drive as I am running out of space very quickly. I use informix on a volume called /livedb which contains all the live database and this is currently at 83%. I would like to move the whole contents of this volume on to a new physical drive safely, please can anybody know the best solution.

Many thanks

Michelle

The safest way is to mirror the volume group with LVM mirroring, then break the mirrors on the original drive.

extendvg will add the disk to the colume group
smitty mirrorvg will set up the mirror
rmlvcopy will break the mirrors

Bill.

I have had no problems at all using "migratepv". The LVM does a pretty good job of keeping the machine safe from us humans. =) Bill's approach is great, but I like the command line so here's how I do it:

extendvg disk2
migratepv disk1 disk2
reducevg disk1
