We are running Netware 6.5, NDS 10551.78. The tree is in great shape, and time sync is working great.

The situation :

Our tree is setup like this:

(ROOT)
(WIC) (the context name)
.cn=admin
.ou=TEACHERS)
.cn=JimSmith
.cn=MaryJohnson
.ou=GRADE_07
.cn=Timmy
.cn=Johnny
.ou=GRADE_08
.cn=Katie
.cn=Freddy

Now, we want to do some stuff with login scripts and a couple other things that we would like to assign to one OU, rather than the six grades.

i.e. We would like to end up with this:

(ROOT)
(WIC) (the context name)
.cn=admin
.ou=TEACHERS)
.cn=JimSmith
.cn=MaryJohnson
.ou=STUDENTS
.OU=GRADE_07
.cn=Timmy
.cn=Johnny
.ou=GRADE_08
.cn=Katie
.cn=Freddy

- We don't use IManager yet. We use Console1 for the most part, once in a while using NWAdmin.

What is the best way to move those users from the existing OU to the new one under 'Students'?

Thanks,

TN

Create the new Students's OU, the create new partitions for the current grade OU's. You can then move the OU as whole to the new Students OU.

You can only move containers that that are partitions.

When you right click on the OU, you will have the move option. After your move, allow the server two hours to complete the move (it's more time than needed, but I like to play it safe if time allows). Then you will want to perform a full NDS health check to ensure everything is in good shape.

Be sure to do this after hours as it will cause large amounts of network traffic depending on the amount of servers in the replica rings. Ensure you perform a backup of NDS before you start, better safe than sorry.
