All,

As the subject indicates, I need to move a secondary site to another server. It has no SQL, just CAP, DP, and MP. If I do an SMS site backup task, can I then install on a box with a diferent name, and use the recovery wizard to restore the settings? Or is it just as easy to go ahead and install the secondary site stuff, move the roles over to the new box, and un-install from the old? We never covered this stuff in SMS class....

Thanks for any advice from experience, I have none at this.

David J.

OK, I followed the instructions, and completely removed the secondary site from the SMS heirachy. This seems to have been successful. Now, still following the posted instructions, I copied the install source CD to the new remote secondary site server, and installed SMS as a secondary site. My problem now is the primary site is not showing the secondary site in the console. The only reference I see in the console is that the re-installed secondary site is listed in the primary site server's 'Adresses' as a standard sender address. The listing shows the 3 char secondary site ID, but then it says '- (unknown)', though I'm sure I gave it the same name as before.

Should I try uninstalling the secondary site again, and then try re-installing via a 'new secondary site' push from the primary server console?

Thanks for any ideas,
David J.

Thats normal, it will be that way until the sites replicate

It's been this way going on 2 weeks. Do I have to initiate a replication somewhere?

Check your logs (sender despool sched) Make sure the senders ar set up properly

Sender log on primary only show traffic from the other 2 secondary sites, none from the one I'm messing with.

despool also show only packages coming from these other 2 sites as well. No errors or mention of the removed & re-added site.

sched is the same, no errors, but no mention of the missing site.

I've discovered the new secondary site server wasn't in any of the SMS built SiteToSite groups on the primary server, so I added it and removed the old server that is now off-line, and also added the primary site to one of the two on the new secondary that didn't have it. I haven't noticed any changes yet.

Logs on the secondary site:
Sender logs were failing to connect prior to the new server being added to the groups. Now they are able to connect and create and manipulate files on the primary site server.

despooler is 'waiting for ready instruction file', and sched was saying 'sending failed' before account added, now saying 'send request has successfully completed'

But there is still nothing in the primary server console.

I will give it a while and report again later.

I've waited a few days, but things are still not working.

Still no mention of the secondary site in the primary site's sender or sched logs.

From the despool log on the primary site:
Cannot find a public key for instruction D:\SMS\inboxes\despoolr.box\receive\ds_oxfw5.ist coming from site FTL, retry it later

FTL is the 'missing' site.

Does this give an indication of what I need to look at next?

Thanks a lot for your help,
David J.

OK, I've figured out I need to manually trade public keys - Done.

We'll see how that pans out in the next little while.

Thanks again everybody.

All working OK now.
