Hello,
Does anyone knows how to move a RAID 5 array from one server to other without lost data?
My system is running on a Proliant ML530 with SmartArray 5300.
I have 2 arrays. One mirrored for the OS (win2k) and the other one is a RAID5 holding ten 72.8GB.
I need to move the RAID5 one to a different server.

Thanks.

hi,
In the RAID adapters, exists a choiche to "import disk configuration from disk to adapter ( it needs if you
need replace 5300 with a new if broken ie ).

I belive if you have another 5300 in new system you can
(or move 5300 too) or the new adapter is compatible with it

bye

If you have the same server models/array controller then just move it, it will boot up. RAID 5 config info is also written to HDD's, just label your HDD's to correct sequence. Moving the HDD's to different compaq array controller is suppose to work just fine, but booting up got an issue because of diff. array controller's driver, data is fine (intact).

On our DL380s, when we move the data array, all of the disks are converted to JBOD. We then have to run the Array Config utility on Smartstart 5.5 CD (6.2 does not work!) to reconfigure the arrays just as they were.

The server will then boot.

If we use the Array Config that is built into the bios, the drives will be cleared.
