I have a client that wants to move their perfectly working Groupwise system off of their perfectly working Novell 6 server and put it on a W2K server. I have asked why but it's a moot point. They want to get rid of their Novell servers but keep the GroupWise for email. I think it's more of a training issue than anything else.

Anyway, has anybody done this and how difficult is it? I've moved GW sytsems to other Novell servers but never to W2K. I am unable to find any good info on this topic from Novell. Any quick pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Marv,

Sorry to hear about your clients recent accident with large falling objects. Regretfully, such a hit to the head does not recover very well.

Moving GroupWise to a Windows box will not be any more difficult than moving it to another NetWare box. Ya just gotta get the Windows box prepped first. You need to get the eDirectory installed and inserted into the tree, do the partition thing and add RW or Master as needed. Then just move your domain and po directories and setup the Win32 agent.

Be sure you sell your client on a second windows server to host a backup of NDS. And if they want to do Active Directory, well, toss two more servers in the mix. Never done it my self, but I wouldn't recomend making a Windows server a domain controller AND a member of the tree hosting NDS. THEN, you gotta get your client to sync their AD info with thier NDS info, DirXML comes to mind. Oh, and don;t forget to sell them the M$ licensing program. [2thumbsup]
