Hi everyone

We have a legacy Filemaker app that is running on a server that we need to move from the server due to costs. I believe it is version 5.

The application is used occasionally to lookup legacy data.

I am considering options including moving the data to SQL and putting a quick front end with .NET or reporting server, or maybe just moving it to a network file server. The application does not have to be multi-user since it is used sparingly. I believe the table structures are somewhat complex (I.E. lots of lookup tables with 1 and 2 type codes).

The second option of moving it to a file server looks promising. Has anyone done this before or can you point me in the right direction if this appears to be a good idea.

I should note that I do not have any Filemaker experience, but I am familiar with XBASE languages, SQL, and .NET.

You will find FM to be in a whole different world from other SQL based databases. Version 5 is pretty old right now. It's so old that there is only 1 table per file although the tables (files) can be related to each other.

Ever consider just exporting everything to Excel and cracking open the spreadsheets when you need to look something up?

Thank you for repsonding. This is good info. Do you or anyone know if I can simply move the filemaker server to a network server, or even a local pc if necessary.
