Hello,

I'm attempting to move an IP phone to a new employee's desk. The IP phone had previously been assigned to a recent retiree. The IP phone needs to be assigned the extension currently assigned to the digital phone that the new employee has been using. The digital phone is a Norstart/Nortel M7810 and the IP phone is an Avaya 9608. I've attempted to swap the extensions. I assigned 366 to the h.323 extension and 363 to the digital phone extension. That didn't work. I then tried assigning the digital phone an extension that is currently unused and the IP phone extension 366. That didn't work either. I later found out that a new h.323 extension was automatically created in IP Office. I had auto creation enabled. The digital phone doesn't want to give up the 366 extension. Yesterday, I disabled automatic extension creation, modified the new automatically created h.323 extension to be assigned 366 and the digital phone was assigned extension 559. The digital phone is being moved to another desk, but remaining plugged into the same port. Its extension doesn't really matter. As it currently is, the digital extension is assigned extension 559 and the IP phone is assigned 366. However, the digital phone still is using 366 and the IP phone displays 366, but it requests us to log in. When I attempt to log in, it gives an invalid pass code error.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks,
Rod

I've saved and merged the config. Haven't been able to reboot as the system is in production.

a merge will not work, only a reboot will work, schedule the reboot for after hours

Thank you. I'll reboot it on Friday when there are few people in the office.

Depends which version you have, on later versions you should be able to change extensions without rebooting, although when switching from digital to IP a good precaution is to first change the digital and save it before creating the IP extension.

Do a clear settings on the IP phone and it will ask you to log in. Log in with the new settings you should be good. For the digital set you have to change the extension port number and *36 to log out or it will keep the ext unless it is set to hot desk.
This does not require a reboot. If moving digital to digital you have to *36 both stations. If you look in SSA you will see the base ext and the current ext. If they are different the *36 should fix it.

The ip set is new so why would he need to do a clear? We do ours will a reboot and it works 100 % buy yes I am sure there are more ways to do this.

Just tried *36 on the digital phone and that did it! The digital phone now has ext 559 and the IP phone automatically reconfigured with port 366. Thank you very much for the help!
