I am trying to move the General Documents document library from a instance of Sharepoint on one server to another instance of Sharepoint on a different server. I cannot find the right information that makes this migration possible. Both sites are running the companyweb page however I must be able to get the documents from the Old Server to the New one. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

I am not running the companyweb but you should be able to use webfolders and add your document libraries as a network place, that way you can copy/move the document library (folders, documents) from the old location to the new.

I have used that method in SharePoint many times, easiest way is to add a network place and then point it to and do so on both servers so you can open them up in e.g Windows Explorer and then simply copy/move everything as normal file copy/move.

Thanks for your reply. I actually had to run this a different direction over the weekend.

I Used Smigrate to backup Companyweb from the old server.

I then had to go into the new server and use stsadm to delete the new companyweb. Following I used stsadm to create a new companyweb without a template.

After doing all this I used smigrate on the new server to import all the data and settings from the old servers companyweb.

I'm not sure this was the correct way to accomplish this but it seemed to work in my case.

Thanks again for your reply

Hello,

only thing that smigrate does not do is to backup and restore your site users and user rights, that however stsadm does.

But good that it worked out!

Cheers,
Thomas
