Move CommServer to new domain 2

Hi,

Due to some organisational changes, I'd like to move my CommServer from it's existing Windows domain and into another. Currently, it backs up clients on both the same and the other domain. These domains also have a two way trust and I directly manage both. This is also my only media agent and has both tape and magnetic libraries via FC.

One reason that I've decided it's time to bite the bullet is that I'm preparing to upgrade to 7.0 (sp1) and with it's support for authentication via AD I want to get it into the domain that most of the users are in. Eventually I'll be deleting the second domain too so sooner or later I need to do this.

Can anyone point me to good info on this process?

Thanks ;)

Books online mate.

Look under Name Management - HowTo ...just type 'change domain commserve' into the search box.

It's a simple process but, don't forget you will also have to change the clients as well.

AD integration (SSO - Single Sign On) is a good feature, I've just recently been working with it as I've been installing the new FAST Content Indexing Engine....v7.0 is also very stable and seems to be more slick than previous versions.

Ah :~/

I even installed Books online 7 last night and spent the night reading about the upgrade process and new features but didn't think it was even worth typing for moving domain questions!

Thanks for the fast reply :)

As Birky said, it is an easy process but I didn't think it would be *SO* easy.

Basically, after backing up and documenting everything, I stopped my services including the SQL database, joined the server to the new domain (thereby removing it from the original domain) and rebooted. The thing started up fine.

At this point everything was already working as the two DNS zones were visable to both domains, but even changing that in preparation for the old domain being deleted was just a case of editing the properties of each client.

it's nice when what you think is a days work ends up takeing 15 minutes ;)

don't let everyone know that it was so easy though ;-)
