Move archive data to different library

Having had file & email archival running on my own mailbox for a few weeks, I've now made a new dedicated magnetic library just for archival.

This is probably a generic question and not specific to archival, but how do I move the data from my 'backup' ML to this new ML?

Hi

Move a Mount Path
The following procedure describes the step involved in moving a mount path currently associated with a magnetic library.

To move a mount path:

Copy the CV_MAGNETIC folder (including its contents) from the current mount path location, to the new mount path location.
From the CommCell Console: Display the Library and Drive Configuration window.
Locate the magnetic library for which you wish to move the mount path.
Right-click the mount path that you wish to move and then select Properties.
From the Mount Path Properties dialog box, enter the new path.
If you select Local Path, click Browse to select a mount path, or enter a mount path.
If you select Network Path, type the user name and password to access the network share. Click Browse to select a mount path, or enter a mount path.
Click OK to save the information.
The mount path is moved to the specified location. Verify that the mount path is online and accessible after the move.

If using a different MediaAgent then you also need to;-

Migrate a Magnetic Library

- To perform a magnetic library migration from one MediaAgent to another MediaAgent:

Right-click the magnetic library that you want to migrate to another MediaAgent and click Migrate Magnetic Library.
A message is displayed indicating that this operation migrates the magnetic library to another MediaAgent. Click OK.
The Select MediaAgent dialog box is displayed. This dialog box displays the current MediaAgent that the magnetic library is associated with and allows you to select a MediaAgent to migrate to. From the drop-down list, select the MediaAgent you want to migrate to and click OK.
The magnetic library will now be associated with the selected MediaAgent. To view the magnetic library properties to verify successful migration, right click on the magnetic library where you want to view the properties, and click Properties.
The MediaAgent is displayed on the General tab.

Make sure that the mount path associated with the magnetic library, points to valid path.

Hi Birky,

Thanks for the reply, but that's not what I need to do. I'm very familiar with the above techniques - having all my branch sites backing up centrally I had to do the temporary USB library and migrate it to HO plenty of times.

What I have is jobs on one library that I want to move to another. Maybe it isn't possible - I search Books Online quite a bit.

oh ok....thought you wanted to move the data.

You can either change the datapath within the storage policy or just create a new storage policy pointing to your new library.

Then change the subclient to point to the new storage policy

I'm fairly sure it isn't possible now or you'd have the answer :)

When I made the new library, I did change the datapath to the new one - the problem (as I see it) is that jobs done prior to this are in the wrong library and since it's an infinite archive, will stay there forever.

Assuming that is the case, it won't manifest itself as a problem unless at some point in the future I want to destroy that first library.

'is that jobs done prior to this are in the wrong library and since it's an infinite archive, will stay there forever.'[/1]

Maybe I'm missing the point ;-)

You could just copy the data over and migrate the magnetic library...data would then reside on the new library...I've done this before.

Only problem is that if you are now migrating to a new storage policy then you will need to retain that Storage Policy indefinately.

Hi I know this is the long way round but if you a V7 the storage policies have a retention for archive data and backups separately, so you could create a new synchronous copy pointing to the new library and associated just with your archive iDA's in the old Storage policy, once it copies via the aux you could change the retention just for the archives on the old copy, and have the new library copy have the retention you want.
It would then have the archive data on the new library, aged off the archive data on the old library.

After that you can either unassociate the old copy from the archive iDA's or create a new Storage Policy for your archive jobs.

Hope this helps

Ah - that sounds reasonable. I'm on leave at the moment, but I'll give that a shot when I get back (in a month ;)

Thanks.
