I recently inherited a Merlin Magic rel. 3.0 to maintain. I had a trouble on an extension (565) this morning, no lights or dial tone. This particular extension is on a 024 TDL card, which is in slot 5 on the system, and is port 17 of that card. I hooked a jack and a known good phone up to the 66 block that feeds from this card, and it doesn't work. I went into SPM/maintenance/port/station/status and I confirmed I'm on the correct slot/port. If I do a test there it comes back no response as if it sees no phone plugged in. At this point I would assume the port is NG in the switch.

How do I change this extension(565) to another slot/port within the system that is spare. I've looked around and so far come up empty.

Thanks
Angelo

Once you know the port you want to put the phone on, renumber the bad port back to its original Set-Up Space number, renumber the new port to 565, do a Line Copy from the old port to the new port, copy the button programming from the old port to the new one, add the new port to the voicemail coverage group, remove the old one, and update the message waiting light indicators.

Go to Maintenance, Port, Station, 565 Enter, Status. You will see the Logical ID. Calculate its setup space extension number by adding 7099 to it.

System Renumber, Single, Extension, 565 Enter, the new setup space number, Enter
Extension, the extension number of the new port, enter, 565, enter

Extensions, Line Copy, the setup space extension number, enter, 565, enter

Centralized Telephone Programming, Copy Extension, the setup space extension number, Enter, 565, Enter

Extensions, More, Group Coverage, 30, Enter, 565, Enter, the setup space extension number, Delete

Maintenance, System, MWI Update, Clear MWI, Enter, Back, Refresh MWI, 770 (or the extension number of the voicemail calling group), Enter

TouchToneTommy,

Thanks for the reply, and excellent detailed instructions. Very much appreciated by this Merlin novice. Boy they sure don't make it easy to work in this system.

Thanks Again
Angelo
