Hi all,

We have a SQL 2000 SP4 and on windows 2003 SP1. The orginal configured put all the databases (DBs) on the C: drive and now the drve only has 200 MB left. We added a disk array to the server and configured E: drive with a RAID 10. Can someone show me the steps I would have to do in order to successful move the DBs to the new drive E:. I am very affair that the server will crash with the limited disk space left. Any help would be wonderful.

Thanks.

I would move all user db's to this new loacation E:\

Take good backup before you proceed

Option 1
Step:1 Detach the db.
Step:2 move the mdf and ldf file
Step:3 Attach the mdf file
Option 2
Step:1 Delete the user db's (dont delete the backups hisotry and files)
Step:2 Create new db with the same name
Step:3 Restore the Db from the backup

Then you should move the tempdb. Its ok to leave the rest of system dbs in C:\ drive.
Any clarifications need please respond.

Good Luck.

Dr.SQL,

Thank you for the quick response. I was wondering the largest DBs are the 3 DBs from the sharepoint server. Those 3 DBs are taking up about 85% of the C: drive. I will try and detach those 3 DBs first. Wish me luck.

You shouldn't have any issues with moving the USER db's. I would also reccomend to move your tempdb if you have heavy transaction.

Dr.Sql
Good Luck.
