Good Evening

I have a PC with two HDs. 1x80GB and 1x160GB, the operating system (XP) is in the 80GB HD, and the 160GB is empty, at the moment the 80G HD is the C drive and the 160GB HD is the E drive.

I want to load some autodata software but I have no room on the 80GB to load it, the software will not let me change the directory so I can point it to the empty 160GB.

How easy is it to move everything from the 80GB HD to the 160GB HD, can I then make the 160GB HD the C drive, at the moment it is the slave....(sorry IDE).

Thanks
Les

It is possible using a hard disk cloning software. Is it possible to move something off of C and onto D in the meantime?

Acronis true image, or Symantic Ghost will do the trick, Both can be had for about 20$ US on the internet. Someone always has one or the other on sale. You can use the DD command in Linux to do a Disk copy, and that would be free, just need to download a Live CD of a distro, like Knopix. There are numerous free Disk cloning software out there, of which the only ones I've ever used have been in the free tools, that can be downloaded or come with a new hdd. Try one of the manufactures web sites for the hdd's that you have, and look for the downloads area, maybe something there that can do the trick.

you might also find what you need on a Hirens Boot CD

There really are a lot of options out there.

Another tool... multitool I should say.. is UltimateBootCD

It has loads of free tools on it... just download, burn the ISO image, and boot from it, selecting the tool you want to use.

I have a hardware drive cloner; unfortunately, it's older and only does IDE Drives....
