I am running Vista and Outlook 07. When I move a single email from my .pst to a folder away from outlook it copies the email but does not purge it from my .pst, I have to go back to my .pst and delete it. Any Ideas

That's the way it's supposed to work. If you want to try and "move" instead of "copy" the email, you could try right-click, cut within Outlook, and then right-click paste in Windows Explorer - IF that were an option. As far as I know, it is not.

However, I imagine you could build a VBA macro to do this for any "selected" email item. It wouldn't be click and drag, but it would reduce the effort necessary for the task.

If you notice in my thread it mentioned that I did try to move not copy. Both move and copy options are available when you right click and drag but the move options acts like the copy option.

Ah, what you're referring to are the Windows Explorer commands. Those don't control how Outlook behaves. Think of it like this: transferring to/from Outlook is like transferring between 2 hard drives or 2 partitions rather than within the same partition. In Windows, if you transfer between 2 partitions, it will always be a move, unless you specifically right-click, select copy, and then paste. When you transfer from one partition to another by click and drag, it'll just copy, not move.

Another way to look at it is that in reality, Outlook is a database application. In order for you to get anything out of Outlook and into the Windows Explorer environment (a separate file), that item has to be exported from the database. When you export anything from any database (that I'm aware of, at least), the database creates a file-based copy of what is STILL in the database - the database itself is unchanged.

Oh contrair on the control not working with outlook, before I went to Vista from XP this function work and still does for an associate in my office. You CAN right click/drag a single email from outlook and move, not copy it, to your desktop or any other file'just did it on an XP machine'.

I lost this function when I went to Vista, as did four other people in my office.

Hu, well... I guess I should have actually tried it to see... I didn't think that was possible, but apparently it is... sorry for the runaround there. [blush]

I'm running Office 2007, from Office Professional Plus 2007, at work, on an XP Pro machine, with Exchange in the background - not sure if we're still on Exchange 03, or on Exchange 07... I imagine it's '07, b/c of SharePoint 07 usage..

Anyhow, with that configuration, I just tried this, and it worked perfectly...

So I got to looking...
gives a way to fix it, it seems...

I found it from this search.

These reg entries where already in my registry, but I reentered them any way...didn't help. I think this was to make the option available which I already had.

I really appreciate your help in this..looks like it's back to the drawing board.

If I had a choice Vista wouldn't be on my computer, and I wouldn't be having this issue.

thnaks again
