I have a DID which ends in 2776 currently it is assigned to a line we don't use. Can that DID be re-assigned to extension 2501 if 2501 currently does not have a DID assigned to it? and if so, how do I do that?

system peed call . assign 2776 (speed call number) to 2501 (actual number).

I just tried that, and it says that number is defined somewhere else. I think its because right now 2776 is an extension number used in our system, but not actively used. So I'm not sure where I would need to go to delete it first...

Don't delete it.

Change the extension to something like 1*2776

Bear in mind this may delete the associated voicemail

Then you can use the speedcall method.

locate number 2776... The number refers to a Station.

Renumber it like KWB suggests then but check voice mail before you do just in case there is anything wanted....or permanently divert 2776 (if its not in use) TO 2501 in Call rerouting always; that way 2776 retains the DID if you need to reuse it (when 2501 will of course lose it)

How about making the sys spd call:

1*2776 to 91XXXXXX2501

Then make a spare reroute always to 1*2776

Then reroute 2776 to this?

Tell me if you think this is an option.

Always look out for the next guy because it may be you!

Your original post stated that 2501 did not have a DID but your 'solution' involves routing 2776 to 2501 via an external number?

I'm getting the feeling that you've left stuff out of you description
