Option 11c Version 2222 Release 25.40B+

I'm going to have about 150 people moving around between 3 buildings in a couple weeks, some of them moving to temporary quarters for a week or so before moving into new offices. It'd save me a lot of work if I could use MOV instead of changing on the frame, especially with all the other mods I have to do in programming.

Several posts say you shouldn't use MOV on Option 11s because it'll corrupt the database. Is this truly the case or is there some other factor such as ACDs (not involved in my case) that cause the corruption. I used MOV many times with no problem before seeing the warnings against it - since then I haven't take the chance.

So, yes or no on using MOV on the Option 11?

Strange, I've never heard that and I DO use MOV all the time, saves so much trouble. I would imagine that if it corrupted the database, would Nortel have included it as a command? Something tells me that person was incorrect, but if you find different or the reason, please post as I've never heard this before.

I have been using the MOV command since 1979 and I havn't had any problems.

i've had a corruption one time in 30 plus years and it was due to a tech doing a transfer on the station i was moving. my mistake was not doing a disu on the set with that tech. our regular techs call in for a trace, call in for a second trace, so i can do a software swap, they know the ropes and we do not have problems.. if your comfortable with procomm, do a search on some of the scripts in this forum.. we've got a few posted that can do 100 moves in 30 minutes, while you watch.. if you need, repost monday and one of us will help get you started

Check out thread 913780.

I can write a Procomm script to do the MOVs with no problem, but thanks anyway John. Read from a CSV with source and destination TNs, STAT destination to insure it's UNEQ, DISU source, MOV, ENLU destination, loop for more.
I could use CPY but there's a lot more steps needed for that and more ways for me to foul it up.

My switch has been running smooth for almost 4 years and I want to keep it that way. So, I'm hearing it both ways from people whose opinions I respect. Ooooh, I'm so confused. :)

all the replies here use mov, and between the 3 of us we have almost 75 years on the keyboard.. we have done 50 moves a month for as long as i have been on site.. we set up our moves that way, jumper new tn's to all the new jacks, run the cvs with set type from and to.. i work on an 81 but have installed 40? 11's and treat them the same way.

if your running clean for that long, you know your switch..

Back in 1979 you could MOV a Phone between Customers on a Multi Customer switch, Nortel removed that one even though I never saw a problem with it.

while we use it all the time, I do remember the talk of not using it, and for the most part, I think it all went back to ACD sets and other oddball TNs. Keep a rotation of backups and go for the gusto.
