Mouseover-highlight beyond the line-break - up to div box?

Is it possible to have a link’s mouseover-highlight effect going beyond the line-break, in other words, right up to the edge of it’s containing div box?

It used to work with a ‘100%’ thrown in, somewhere, but since adding a DOCTYPE declaration, it no longer does!

You could always put the mouseover hightlight on the entire div.
